Hug Box gifts for Valentine's Day

Well we're into 2023 a month now. The change of seasons are always renewing, however that may be for you. The beginning of a new year always seems to be the time to start fresh, set goals, eat healthier, exercise more, call your family more... whatever it may be for you. And as the year moves on, it's always great if we can keep that spirited path moving forward. Here at the Hug Box, we love to bring joy to our customers and receivers of Hug Boxes. So to help you fill your days and others with joy, self-care and love, here are a few things for you to check out.

Give Self-Care (LOVE).

The Hug Box is mostly about sending a hug to others, but what about you too? Self-care should not be mistaken for selfishness. Self-care (or love!) is by definition:

"the ability to love and care for oneself through awareness, self-control, and self-reliance in order to achieve, maintain, or promote optimal health and well-being"

And when we practice self-care, that means we can continue to care and love others a lot easier.

The seven pillars of self-care are:  Mental, Emotional, Physical, Environmental, Spiritual, Recreational, and Social.

Here is one of my favorite physical self-care do's: HUG YOURSELF YOGA

Journey into Simple Living Book

Here is the perfect book to cover all of those pillars. Journey into Simple Living, which is available at the Hug Box shop and the perfect addition to a Self-Care (LOVE) Hug Box gift for you or someone who needs some self-care in their life.

As busy women, we are bombarded daily by forces that threaten to pull us away from our core selves. We are consumed with our numerous roles as moms, wives, daughters, siblings, friends, employers and colleagues. Our schedules burgeon with phone calls, texts, social media, television, meetings, school activities, housework and errands. We shove and stuff the “must-dos” into a 24-hour day until there is barely any room for “me.” This cycle repeats and rolls into weeks, months, years, and before we realize it, decades. Over time, this kind of living can tax our bodies, minds, hearts and souls. Apart from the mental, physical and emotional ramifications of living a hectic life, we've been robbed of the precious gift of time. How can we cherish the time we’ve been given, the time we have left? The answer is to live simply. The simple life is about savoring every moment gifted to us. Simple living can be attained easily, and without much cost, in and around our homes. To begin, we must first choose to live simply, then take small, intentional steps to create daily habits that form a lifestyle. Living a simple life gives us more time for ourselves and with our loved ones. It also makes our time here on earth more joyful, meaningful and peaceful. Choose to begin the simple living journey - now!  - Annie Singh Quern

What are some of your self-care to-do's under each pillar?

For the LOVE of Air Plants.

Air plants

The Hug Box shop is always stocked up with sweet, easy-to-care-for air plants. Our customers LOVE them for themselves or for gifting. They are lovely additions to any space and naturally wonderful gifts. We have many pots and hangers to choose from to fit any style. Come by and get one to take home and LOVE. We also have air plants in our Each Day is a New Day Hug Box.

Light. Air plants should be kept where they'll receive bright, indirect sunlight or under fluorescent home/office lighting. Periods of direct sunlight are just fine, but more than a few hours of hot sun will deplete the plants of their moisture. If your plant will be in a spot with some pretty direct light, try misting them every couple of days to keep them hydrated.

Water. Air plants live on more than just air. While air plants don't grow in soil, they definitely NEED to be watered. While the plants can survive for long periods of drought, they will not grow or thrive and will eventually die off if water is too scarce. Follow the directions below for watering your plants on a regular basis and they will stay alive and well for quite some time. The good news is that since these plants are very forgiving, you shouldn't stress over their care schedule.

Air. Provide good circulation. And temperture should not be lower than 50 degrees farenheit.

Grooming. It is normal for some of the lower leaves of your tillandsias to dry out as the plant grows or acclimates to a new environment, and those leaves can be gently pulled right off of the plant. If the leaf tips have dried out, you can snip the dried tip off and the same can be done for the plant's roots. Don't worry about harming your plants during grooming, they'll regrow.
