The Art of Pausing: Summer Simplicity at The Hug Box
Hello, Hug Box community!
As the June heat officially rolls in, there is a natural shift in the air. Summer invites us to slow down, breathe a little deeper, and embrace a simpler, more intentional pace of life.
Lately, I’ve been practicing exactly what I preach by taking a step back to look at what it means to practice that same simplicity within The Hug Box.
A Season of Simplicity (and Limited Editions!)
If you’ve visited our online shop recently, you might notice things looking a little lighter than usual. Over the last few months, so many of our artisan-made goods have found their way to many doorsteps, leaving our shelves beautifully sparse.
Instead of rushing to immediately restock more products, I’ve decided to lean into the season. For the next few weeks, we are holding a "Summer Simplicity" stretch. We are going to fully clear out our current inventory before bringing in a beautiful, fresh wave of new products closer to the end of summer.
This little pause is also giving me the perfect opportunity to work behind the scenes on a website refresh with fixing a few bugs, cleaning up recent tech hiccups, a redesign overall getting the online shop running smoother than ever for you.
What this means for you right now:
-
True Limited Editions: The Hug Boxes available right now are truly one-of-a-kind. Once a specific artisan soap, candle, or treat is gone, it may not be back ever or until autumn.
-
The Perfect Time to Send a "Just Because" Hug: Because our quantities are low, it’s a wonderful moment to grab that specific gift box you’ve had your eye on for a summer birthday, a thank you, or a much needed long-distance hug.
-
Thoughtful Curation: We are using this time to intentionally curate what comes next. (And we’d love to hear from you. Is there a local artisan or a specific type of product that you’d love to see us carry later this year?)
Local Love: Newnan Reset & Relax Events
While we take a breath and plan our next chapter behind the scenes, we want to encourage you to find your own version of a summer pause. Getting out into nature and connecting with community is a wonderful place to start. Here are some beautiful, relaxing, and wellness-focused events happening around the Newnan area this June:
-
Gentle Yoga & "Exercise is Medicine" (Multiple Dates in June): If you are looking for a gentle, accessible way to move your body and clear your mind, the Newnan Carnegie Library (a wonderful community nonprofit hub!) is hosting free Gentle Yoga sessions on Wednesdays (June 3 & 10 at 1:30 PM) and Exercise is Medicine classes throughout the month. It’s the perfect, low-pressure way to prioritize wellness.
-
Downtown Newnan Market Day (Saturday, June 6, 10 AM – 2 PM): Take a slow, sensory stroll around the downtown square. Supporting local artisans, smelling fresh flowers, and greeting neighbors is an instant mood booster.
-
Summer NewnaNights (Thursday, June 11, 6 PM – 9 PM): Organized by Main Street Newnan, this evening event brings the community together for family-friendly music and entertainment on the square. Grab a cool drink, sit back, and enjoy a warm summer evening at a relaxed pace.
-
Summer Outdoor Science & Evening Glow Hikes: If you want to completely unplug and get grounded, head out to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. They are hosting wonderful community nature events all month long, including a Composting Workshop (June 6) and a magic-filled Summer Night Glow Hike (June 20).
-
Southern LitFest (June 5 & 6): Hosted by the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation in downtown Newnan. This biannual community favorite celebrates storytelling, literature, and the joy of reading. It’s a wonderful, slow-paced weekend activity to spark some creative inspiration, listen to author panels, and stroll the downtown square.
-
Journey to Calm: Sound Healing (Saturday, June 20, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM): If you really want a dedicated hour to unplug, the Newnan Carnegie Library is hosting a special guided sound-healing event. It begins with gentle movement and breathwork to center the mind, followed by an immersion of crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, gongs, and chimes to help you drift into a meditative state. (Perfect for a blog emphasizing a summer pause!)
-
Summer Outdoor Science: Bird Watching Hike (Saturday, June 27, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM): Another gem at Chattahoochee Bend State Park. Grab some binoculars and take a slow, mindful walk along the West Platform and Riverside Trails to practice identifying local birds. Connecting with wildlife and listening to birdsong is one of the quickest ways to ground yourself in the present moment.
Whether your version of a summer reset means hitting a local trail, diving into a library book, or simply allowing yourself to do a little less, let’s all agree to embrace a little more simplicity this month.
Thank you, as always, for supporting this journey and sending so much love out into the world, one Hug Box at a time. Keep an eye out for a refreshed digital space and brand-new collections coming your way later this summer!
With gratitude,
Vicki Sanders
