September is here! School has been back in session and the leaves will be changing colors soon!

First up... BIG NEWS!

Vicki Sanders of the Hug Box and Laura Meredith of Newnan Book Company

So excited to announce that The Hug Box Shop will be moving to a new space... just around the corner at 2C Jackson St., Newnan, Georgia. It will be bittersweet leaving the corner space that has been the Hug Box home for the last 4 years, but thrilled to be moving in a beautiful new space with Newnan Book Company. Please be sure to come by and visit Oct 1!

SEPTEMBER EVENTS & DAYS:

September 12 - HUG & HIGH FIVE DAY. I just discovered this national day and I loved the story behind it. In 2021, David Sylvester founded National Hug & High 5 Day to share his mission of touring the country, spreading good deeds, smiles, and joy across the country and world. But his mission didn’t start in 2021 – it started the day after his friend was killed in the World Trade Center in 2001. Since then, he has bicycled across North America from various points three times. He’s also bicycled parts of Australia, across Asia, and Africa. On each tour, he made a point to visit cities touched by violence. With each hug and high five, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Human warmth and kindness elevated people out of adversity – if even for a moment. Follow @thehumanhigh5

    Hope you were inspired. #HugAndHigh5Day

The Hug Box will still be in our current location and featuring Mackenzie Myrick Illustration, July Rae O'Sunshine, Loops and Bounds Co. and our newest artist Mandi Kelley of Ayo Clay Co. AND Jessica Holt of Junk Starlet (who will soon be moving into the Hug Box shop space!)

Saturday September 24 - FIDO FEST 5K The Hug Box Shop will be part of this event to support Hearts N' Homes Rescue. The Fido Fest will be at Ashely Park in Newnan, Georgia from 10-1pm after the 5K. There will be food trucks, vendors, artists, and entertainment for the family and pets!

Saturday September 24 - FRAYED EDGES FESTIVAL - Be sure to mark your calendar for the Frayed Edges Festival in Newnan, Georgia. This festival focuses on mental wellness. There will be food trucks, music, vendors and more!

MONTH OF SEPTEMBER - PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH Prostate Cancer is the most common non-skin cancer diagnosed in men, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men, after lung cancer. Prostate cancer is more common in older men. It is more likely to occur in men with a family history of prostate cancer and in men of African-American descent. Other risk factors include smoking, being overweight, and not getting enough exercise. In the United States, about 11 percent of men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point during their lifetimes.

My Dad and my Uncle both had prostate cancer, but luckily it was detected early enough that their treatments were successful. So... check in with the men in your life and be sure that they are staying healthy and getting check-ups.

Get a Start to Your Holiday Season Shopping.

This shopping season, take a look around while you’re out walking in your neighborhood. Is there a small lifestyle store you haven’t noticed before? An independent bookshop you haven’t visited? Check with neighbors and review sites to discover local spots that may become your new favorite small business. Here are some great reasons to support your local mom & pop shops:

    • When you buy local, your dollars stay in the community, especially a shop that provides locally-made goods and gifts such as honey, jewelry, art, and more.
    • They help preserve the character of your neighborhood or small town.
    • They are more sustainable, especially if they are buying their products from local sources.
    • They provide an intimate personalized shopping experience where names and faces are important.

Have a wonderful walk into fall! Hugs! Vicki
