A lot of amazing people came to Newnan to help our community alongside the many locals who on the first day grabbed their chainsaws, rakes, wheel barrows, bobcats, whatever they had available to help clean up. So many neighbors brought water and snacks to those working in the debris of years old trees and homes. Local businesses, nonprofits and churches came together, even having no power for some time, to volunteer, collect donations, provide meals and more. I love this community filled with love, faith and kindness.
A few days before Easter and a short week after the tornado hit, a few of us came together to create Hug Boxes for the kids affected by the tornado. It was amazing how so many of my friends responded so quickly with donations and time, We fulfilled 150 Easter Hug Boxes in a matter of 3 days and our local nonprofit Hope Global delivered them to the kids in time for Easter.
We have been here before, when #newnanstrong was created a few years ago. And again we are strong together. A group of volunteers, business owners are currently organizing an event to aid those affected by this devastation and to bring back our artists that missed out on our Spring Art Walk that was cancelled due to the tornado. This Newnan Strong Event will occur Saturday May 8, from 5-10pm. Follow @historicdowntownnewnan for details and of course @thehugbox.
Spring is here... and we are going to prevail and bring joy to our community.

Love and hugs! Vicki
