Spring is about here! Daylight savings (spring forward) is around the corner... March 9. (Wondering if that will ever go away). March is when everyone starts to get outdoors more and spring clean - a fresh start... again. Of course everyday is a fresh start, but of course nobody wants to spring clean every day!  Below are some forward to spring ideas of things to do. - Love and hugs! Vicki

• Thrift a new-to-you spring pastel blouse. Nobody will have it! And you will be supporting your local thrift store. Checkout The Reverie in downtown Newnan, Georgia. So happens it is the location of the first The Hug Box shop. 
• Visit a butterfly sanctuary. Callaway Gardens is home to Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Butterfly tours start in March. And you can send a Butterfly necklace or Butterfly flower seeds to someone when you Build a Hug Box.
• Start seeds indoors. Some of our Hug Boxes have seed tins curated or you can choose seeds when you Build a Hug Box.
  
• Wear green for St.Patrick's Day and go hunting for a 4 leaf clover. Have fun and find some luck on March 17th. Here is a list of things you can do to celebrate in Newnan, Georgia.
• Thrift an Easter basket. Don't buy another plastic store bought basket - find one at your local thrift store and fill it with local artisan goodies and candy (or you can build one as a Hug Box!)  Rocket Fizz has loads of nostalgic candy, located in Newnan, Georgia.
• Make a flower pot. Make plans to visit Mud Haven Pottery in Grantville, Georgia to make your own pot. We also have mini pots that were made by Mud Haven Pottery especially for the Hug Boxes. You can choose one in Build a Hug Box and they come with an air plant! Pictured above.
• Make a spring craft. The Makers Club is a local artists club in Georgia. Their mission is to build a community of local artists, handmade artisans and curators. Their art events create space for artists to express themselves, collaborate and connect.
• Hang a hummingbird feeder. Sitting on the porch watching and listening to these amazing creatures are so peaceful. You should start feeding hummingbirds with a feeder in the early spring, typically around mid-March in most areas, but depending on your location, you may need to wait until mid- to late April in the northern parts of the U.S. and Canada, or even as early as February in the Southeast. Try making one! 
  
• Update home decor. It's easy to update home accessories like art, pillows, vases to make a room more springy. Supporting local artists is fabulous, and every time you look at the treasure it will have some meaning. If you are in Newnan, Georgia, Friday March 21 is the Spring Art Walk sponsored bby Mainstreet Newnan.

March is Red Cross Month.

INTERESTING HISTORICAL FACTS:

Clarissa Harlowe Barton, known as Clara, is one of the most honored women in American history. Guided by an intense devotion to helping others, she forged a bold path of service to help those in need. As founder of the American Red Cross, Clara is considered a visionary whose humanitarian spirit helped change the world. 

Red Cross Month was first celebrated in 1943 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the Red Cross Month to raise awareness about the mission of the American Red Cross during the height of WWII. Through the proclamation, President Roosevelt was asking the American public to help with the efforts of the Red Cross during the "hour of the greatest need" for military fighting in Europe and their families at home. 

The humanitarian efforts of the American Red Cross is a symbolism for the hope and relief they promote around the world. They are known to provide humanitarian services during armed conflicts, natural disasters, and other emergencies. In fact, the Red Cross aims to alleviate human suffering to people who are vulnerable during crisis. By providing basic human needs, the Red Cross helps keep the dignity of the people they are serving irregardless of their economic, ethnic, or social status.
