August. Still summer fun.

As summer comes to a close and school is back in session, there is still time to enjoy the warmth and glow of the summer sun, escape to the pool, lake, beach, wherever in nature that brings you joy as we stride into autumn. And below are some special summer self-care and thoughtful ideas, days and events for you to enjoy.

August Updates & Events:

August is National Wellness Month focusing on self-care, managing stress and promoting healthy routines. Research has shown self-care helps manage stress and promotes happiness.

All natural fruit and veggie drink

This August in particular (as in the current moon) is a great time to focus on clearing your mind and being present in your physical body. Meditation can be especially healing, and spending some peaceful time in nature. If you have goals specifically related to your wellness or daily routines, now’s the time to kick them into high gear. Picking up a healthy new habit or challenging yourself to a new yoga pose or try a different spa treatment, make a small change and impact your health in positive ways.

Most of these wellness ideas have been around while (especially since  pantyhose - not really a thing these days - but think yoga pants, they are great for class but not all day.) There's a reason why this old list still makes sense... they work. But we often just need to be reminded or maybe were ready for it now. Here are some quick and simple ideas to start today:

  • Increase your water intake.
  • Eat more fruits and veggies daily.
  • Monitor your sleep and aim for better sleep habits.
  • Practice yoga, go for a walk, take a group class. Checkout the new Neighborhood Barre (I just noticed the clever name!) in Mainstreet Newnan, Georgia.
  • Learn to meditate. Blue Lotus Yoga in Newnan, Georgia is a great place to start.
  • And for daily health and wellness advice checkout Kale Blossom

PS: And if you are local to the Newnan, Georgia sure to mark your calendar for the Frayed Edges Festival in Newnan, Georgia on Saturday, September 24.

Bear Hug Honey

Saturday August 20 - WORLD HONEY BEE DAY.  We love our bees and the artisans that take care of them like Bear Hug Honey. You can buy their products at the Hug Box shop in Historic Downtown Newnan, Georgia or at their flagship store in Athens. We have their delicious honey, nourishing soaps, candles, hand balm and more in store and in many of our Hug Boxes. Hang in There Sweet-Tea Hug Box is just one of them!

Sunday, August 21 - SUNDAY FUNDAY is back! The Hug Box Shop will have special hours again from 12pm - 4pm. It was such a fun time last Sunday Funday, we wanted to do it again in case you missed it! Mark your calendar and join us for giveaways, discounts, and refreshments.

Remi

Friday, August 26 - DOG DAY. Honestly, it should be dog day everyday. Dogs bring so much comfort and joy to many people's lives. And adopting a dog is such a rewarding and loving choice. Our local rescue organizations are always working hard to find homes for all of the sweet fur babies that they come across that need love and care. If you are local to Newnan, Georgia please support, volunteer and adopt with Newnan Coweta Humane Society and Hearts 'n Homes Rescue (Photo: Lil' Remi came from here!) to name just a couple! And if you are local to the Newnan, Georgia be sure to sign up and mark your calendar for Fido Fest 5K Event on Saturday, Sept 24. And we have Big Daddy Biscuits (made in Georgia) back at the shop!! Come get your pup some! Or if you can't come by order direct from them!

Saturday, August 27 - ARTIST MARKET. RPM Full Service restaurant will have their annual local artist market in Newnan, Georgia. One of our talented artists, Jessica Holt of Junk Starlet will be there too!

Sunday, August 28 - THOUGHTFUL DAY.

Put your stamp on the day – your own style of thoughtful. Maybe you’ll become the aunt known for her funny postcard surprises or the friend known for spontaneous self-care days. Some other thoughtful ideas include:

  • Mail cards to several people in your contact list. A handwritten note means so much since they are rare these days. We have so many sweet cards and postcards created by local artisans at the Hug Box shop. Mackenzie Myrick is one of our artisans that creates beautiful whimsical animal illustrations from notecards to prints. We have here creations at the shop or you can order direct from her.
  • Deliver surprises to friends and family. Idea: Send a Hug Box. PS: We can create your meaningful gifts at any budget!
  • Surprise someone with a new book. Shop at or order a book from our sister shop Newnan Book Company.
  • Customize a happy colorful piece of art for their home. Pick it Place Designs is the perfect choice. Find them here Share Space Artisans

And a fun thing... I was interviewed by Canvas Rebel Magazine. Read it here.

Happy last month of summer!!! Vicki
